Diminishing IQ

Society as a whole are losing brain power, skills and deductive reasoning mechanisms as a direct result of electronics. How many people use their phones for directions, simple addition and subtraction, or use self-driving cars? The more often society lets the computers do the thinking or labor for us, the faster we lose vital neuro connections in the brain.  Since the left hemisphere of the brain controls language processing, speech, focusing attention and abstract functions like deductive reasoning and inhibiting negative emotions. Scientists have seen a rapid decline in these functions especially as the right hemisphere becomes more nourished and used. The Right hemisphere control's spatial ability, visual cortex, creativity, auditory and artistic abilities. Now, look at how the world operates, majority of ads, commercials, news, etc. Use colors schemes, imagery manipulation, audio or artistic samplings to quickly captivate the audience or viewer. Leaving the analytical left side to struggle processing the information just presented. Often resulting in an individual making a wrong decision that causes them mental and emotional distress. As more automated technology is developed, the general population is in a steady decline in intellect. The FAA did a study in 2014 on their pilots and the use of autopilot. Studies found pilots are losing reflex ability, have slower judgement calls and forgetting the simplest controls. Refer to the age old saying "If You Don't Use it, You Lose It". In order to progress there has to be a balance in both hemispheres or we'll fail.

As time passes and technology becomes more intertwined with other devices. Older generations struggle the most to keep up with every new update or software development. To most people older than twenty-five, a lot of the technology available today serves no useful purpose other than a quick mood fix or popularity contest. Most remember a simpler time when you didn't have to have multi-verification codes to access an email or gaming account. They actually had the knowledge and skills to perform their job duties or problem solve without having to rely on a computer chip that needs constant maintenance and updates to function properly.

On the other hand. Today's youth were born into the electronic age and know nothing else but the digital life. So, the question becomes who's more at a disadvantage, today's youth or the older generation? Both groups struggle in many ways, however seeing as the older generations still retains most of the basic rudimentary skills learned before computers. It's the younger generations that have difficulty following or performing simple tasks even with computers or automated machines doing the majority of the thinking and labor.
